Mind Over Matter
I managed to stay fairly healthy all winter long, but it finally caught up to me. Still, I have not let this cold stop me. It is amazing to witness what the body can tolerate and how it endures, and even more amazing to witness is how quickly the body recovers when you stop resisting illness. Like sadness and pain, illness is a natural part of life; we can either be a victim to it, or we can embrace it, take responsibility for it, and allow it to run its course and teach us something new about ourselves and others. I am sick... so what? Knowing that there are far more important things to be concerned about keeps me from succumbing to the microscopic creatures that try to take over my physical body... they have no power over my mind or my spirit, unless I hand it over to them. I do believe that it is important to recognize our own limits, but these limits do not have to be a hindrance to what we have set out to accomplish. We can use them as benchmarks or starting points from which we can begin to learn, grow, and thrive.
